Manchester United vs Liverpool Prediction (01-05-2021)
Some would call this the biggest rivalry in English football, and it may well be. These two rivals have a long history of hatred, and this one is a huge game. Manchester United could cause another setback for Liverpool in their quest to get Champions League football with a result here.
Unbeaten in the league since January, Manchester United are on a hell of a run. That run has seen them sit comfortably in 2nd for quite some time now, and while 1st is still possible, it doesn’t seem likely that Manchester City will be caught.
They sit 10 points behind the current leaders, and the draw last weekend against Leeds didn’t help bring them much closer. The gap is possible, but with games running out, it looks like Man Utd will be finishing 2nd, which they’ll take. It’s been a fantastic season and a wonderful run of games that has seen them be one of the top clubs in the country again, and the visit of Liverpool now brings an exciting game to Old Trafford.
The away side have to win if they want to continue in their quest of ending the season in a Champions League position, but Man Utd can ruin a lot of that hope with a win here, and it is possible.
United do have the attacking talent that will cause Liverpool’s weakened defence a lot of issues, as a lot of other clubs have, and with the pace they possess on the transition, it could be a route they go down when Liverpool come to visit. Man Utd will fancy they can pick up all 3 points here against their bitter rivals who are still showing signs of struggle.
Liverpool may be unbeaten in their last six Premier League games, but they have drawn their last 3. It simply isn’t good enough, and it has to change here if they are to have any chance of clinching a spot.
They’re very much still in with a shout as West Ham stumbled again, but they do sit 4 points behind Chelsea who are in 4th, and enjoying some good form under Thomas Tuchel.
Liverpool have had 52 shots in their last two games against Newcastle and Leeds, but they’ve only managed to find the target twice which shows that the team is still lacking a lot of confidence in front of goal.
It’s hard to understand why this team has faltered how it has, and I’m sure Klopp would love to know the answer also, but it’s clear that they aren’t at the same level as they were for the previous two seasons. They still keep a lot of the ball and play the same way, but the finishing hasn’t been there and every team now fancies giving Liverpool a game.
Defensively there’s still issues which are to be expected, but there’s a lot more wrong than just that, with players like Firmino and Mane not performing up top this season. Salah should be the only player who deserves some praise as he has put in performances this season, and his goals show that.
It’s time to perform for these Liverpool players at this crucial stage of the season, and we all know they can perform. It’s now Klopp’s job to go to Old Trafford and put out a team that can find a victory against this confident Man Utd side in a must win game.
