Last-gasp Foden goal denies Dortmund the advantage

Champions League Cup

Manchester City 2, Borussia Dortmund 1 – Etihad stadium, Manchester

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were well below their dominating best against underdogs Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad stadium on Tuesday night Champions League quarter final.

Dortmund played a fairly open game and despite their opponent’s 60% ball possession in the match, were able to keep Manchester City at bay for most of the proceedings.

Going 0-1 into the interval from a Kevin De Bruyne goal in the 19th minute, Dortmund were able to get that vital away goal through Marco Reus in the 84th minute from an excellent Erling Haaland assist. However, the Bundesliga club’s hopes of going into the second leg on level terms were dashed when Phil Foden scored a close-range winner in the 90th minute for City.

With only one goal separating the two sides, the return clash in Germany promises to be one full of excitement.
