Mbappe scores two vital away goals

Champions League Cup

Bayern Munich 2, Paris St. Germain 3 – Allianz Arena, Munich

A Bayern Munich side playing without their key forwards Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnarby were able to dominate proceedings at the Allianz Arena and has many as 31 attempts on the PSG goal, twelve of which were on target.

Despite all their ball possession, the champions had only a couple of goals to show. Kylian Mbappe made the Bavarian club pay dearly for their poor finishing as he got goals in either half to put his side on a firm footing ahead of the Champions League quarter finals return at Parc Des Princes next week.

The prolific 22-year-old Mbappe stunned the champions with his first in as early as the 3rd minute when he calmly finished through the legs of Bayern keeper Manuael Neuer. The Parisiennes were unlucky not to have added one more in the 11th minute when Mbappe played through to Julian Draxler who had the ball in the net.

But the goal was disallowed as Mbappe was found marginally offside when the goalward shot was taken. PSG did go ahead in the 28th minute when Marquinhos took a high ball from Neymar and beat Neuer to give his side an early command. Bayern responded quickly as Benjamin Pavard laid off a cross to an unmarked Alex Choupo-Moting who headed in from 12 yards to reduce the deficit in the 37th minute.

The hosts kept up the pressure on the rival goal after the interval and their endeavors paid off when a diving Thomas Muller headed in from a Joshua Kimmich free kick to draw level in the 60th minute. But a lax Bayern defense could not prevent letting in a third goal in the 68th minute as Neymar and Mbappe created serious problems by hitting back on the break.

From one such brilliant inter-play between the PSG duo, Mbappe bore down on the Bayern box from the left and let loose a finish to Neuer’s near post to hand his side a massive advantage of 3 away goals before the return leg in Paris on the 13th April for a mouth-watering climax.
