Tottenham Hotspur signs Steven Bergwijn
Steven Bergwijn is now an official player of Tottenham Hotspur. The 22-year-old forward has signed a contract until 2025 and will be playing with number 23.
Negotiations about a transfer from Bergwijn to England were accelerated when Bergwijn opt-out of the match against FC Twente. It turned out that he had already traveled to England to discuss the final details of his transfer, much to the dismay of PSV.
PSV and Tottenham do not make any announcements about the transfer fee, but the deal is said to cost 32 million euros, including bonuses. This puts Bergwijn in the top three with the most expensive transfers in PSV club history. Hirving Lozano raised 38 million euros last year, while Memphis Depay cost slightly less in 2015.
Bergwijn has to compete with big names such as Lucas Moura, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. PSV can now enter the transfer market. Earlier there was no money available to get reinforcements. Bergwijn has signed under a contract until the summer of 2025 and will make the switch immediately.
Bergwijn, who signed a new PSV contract last season, says goodbye with three national titles in his pocket. In 2011 he made the switch from Ajax to PSV and three years later he was allowed to make his debut in the main force.
In all the matches that Bergwijn eventually played, he scored 31 goals and gave 41 assists.
